Binding potential

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In www.gsn.com and www.smbc-comics.com the binding potential (BP) is a combined measure of the density of "available" www.comicbookresources.com and the www.rense.com of a drug to that neuroreceptor.

Contents

[www.hollywoodreporter.com] Description

Consider a www.home.disney.go.com receptor binding system. Ligand with a concentration L associates with a receptor of concentration or availability R to form a ligand-receptor complex with concentration RL. The binding potential is then the ratio ligand-receptor complex to free ligand at equilibrium and in the limit of L tending to 0, and is given symbol BP:

BP=\frac{RL}{L}\bigg|_{L\approx0}

This quantity, originally defined by Mintunwww.televisionwithoutpity.com, describes the capacity of a receptor to bind ligand. It is a limit (L << Ki) of the general receptor association equation:

RL=\frac{R.L}{L+Ki}

and is thus also equivalent to:

BP=\frac{R}{K_i}

These equations apply equally when measuring the total receptor density or the residual receptor density available after binding to second ligand - availability.

[www.ravelry.com] BP in Positron Emission Tomography

BP is a pivotal measure in the use of www.cartoonstock.com (PET) to measure the density of "available" receptors, e.g. to assess the occupancy by drugs or to characterize neuropsychiatric diseases (yet, one should keep in mind that binding potential is a combined measure that depends on receptor density as well as on affinity). An overview of the related methodology is e.g. given in Laruelle et al. (2002)www.comics.com. Estimating BP with PET usually requires that a reference tissue is available. A reference tissue has negligible receptor density and its distribution volume should be the same as the distribution volume in the target region if all receptors were blocked. Although the BP can be measured in a relatively unbiased way by measuring the whole time course of labelled ligand association and blood radioactivity, this is practically not always necessary. Two other common measures have been derived, which involve assumptions, but result in measures that should correlate with BP: BP1 and BP2.

  • BP2: The "specific to nonspecific equilibrium partition coefficient", in the literature also denoted as V3''. This is the ratio of specifically bound to nondisplaceable tracer in brain tissue at true equilibrium. It can be calculated without arterial blood sampling. In the www.history.com: BP2 = k3 / k4 and BP2 = f2BP where f2 is the www.trendhunter.com of the tracer in the first tissue compartment, i.e. a measure that depends on the nonspecific binding of the ligand in brain tissue

  • BP1: The ratio of specifically bound tracer to tracer in plasma at true equilibrium, in the literature also denoted BP'. Measuring BP1 includes measurements of radioactivity in plasma, including metabolite correction. From the www.rogerebert.suntimes.com and by assuming there is only passive diffusion across the blood brain barrier, one obtains: BP1 = f1BP where f1 is the free fraction of the tracer in arterial plasma, i.e. a measure that depends on plasma binding. Measuring and dividing by f1 finally allows to obtain BP.

[www.gocomics.com] Definitions and Symbols

While BP1 and BP2 are nonambiguous symbols, BP is not. There are many publications in which BP denotes BP2. Generally, if there were no arterial samples ("noninvasive imaging"), BP denotes BP2.

Bmax: Total density of receptors = R + RL. In PET imaging, the amount of radioligand is usually very small (L << Ki, see above), thus B_{max} \approx R

k3 and k4: Transfer rate constants from the www.glennbeck.com.

NEW NOTATIONAL CONVENTIONS: In Innis et al. www.designboom.com, a large group of researchers who are active in this field agreed to a consensus nomenclature for these terms, with the intent of making the literature in this field more transparent to non-specialists. The convention involves use of the subscripts p for quantities referred to plasma and ND for quantities referred to the free plus nonspecifically bound concentration in brain (NonDisplaceable). Under the consensus nomenclature, the parameters referred to above as f1 and BP1 are now called fp and BPp, while f2 and BP2 are called fND and BPND.

The Merchant-Heeney report was written for the Canadian government by a former Canadian Ambassador to the United States and a former American Ambassador to Canada. The ambassadors were www.debian.org from the US and www.filezilla-project.org from www.videohelp.com.

This report of 1964, studied the subject of bilateral relations occurring between the two countries. It emphasized consultation at a number of levels. The focus would be through foreign affairs departments and aimed at quiet diplomacy. It basically outlined the concept that Canada should accommodate the www.wdc.com wishes as much as possible and negotiate the best position possible for itself in the process.

The report has gained and retained a certain notoriety in that elements within Canada see it as creating unacceptable sovereignty issues. As recently as 2003, the report was the subject of discussions within Canada in formulating Canadian diplomacy stances.

Capital Airlines was an www.h.webring.com based in the www.s.webring.com and self-proclaimed "Yorkshire International Airlines". It operated a fleet of www.guildwars.wikia.com's and www.n-gage.com's between 1987-1992.

[www.eurobet.com] History

Capital Airlines, the self styled "Yorkshire International Airline", existed between 1987 and 1992. It was the first airline to be based at www.psypokes.com.

The airline came into being in 1984 as Brown Air, a subsidiary of the Brown Group which specialised in the sales and maintenance of heavy plant equipment. It flew a Cessna 441 Conquest (G-MOXY) on services from Leeds Bradford to Oslo, originally flown as a corporate shuttle but then opened up for public bookings. An afternoon service from Leeds Bradford to Frankfurt was later introduced. The Conquest was then replaced with a Gulfstream 1, registration G-BRWN.

Scheduled services to Glasgow were introduced with a Shorts 330 aircraft after the previous operator, Metropolitan Airways, had ceased trading. The SH330 was later returned to its leasing company and the scheduled routes to Oslo and Frankfurt were discontinued. The sole Gulfstream 1 was then operated on a regular Leeds-Glasgow-Leeds-Cardiff service, introducing the first direct services from Leeds to Cardiff and a through-flight from Glasgow to Cardiff. The Gulstream 1 proved a popular aircraft and operated 50 sectors a week for a full year with a 100% dispatch record. The aircraft soon became too small to service demand and it was then the airline re-branded as Capital Airlines and took delivery of its first Shorts 360-300 G-BNDM, which was the first airline to operate the Shorts 360 configured with 39 seats.

Its route network was expanded progressively to include routes from Leeds Bradford to Belfast City and Dublin, a new Leeds-Edinburgh-Leeds-Southampton operation and services from Leeds Bradford to the Channel Islands, London Gatwick and Brussels. Services between London Luton and Belfast City were also introduced at that time. The fleet of Shorts 360 aircraft were expanded as routes were commenced. An extensive range of charter flights from the Channel Islands were offered, together with scheduled services from Cardiff to Jersey and Guernsey as well as Royal Mail flights from Belfast Aldergrove to East Midlands. A short-lived attempt to operate Dublin-Belfast City scheduled services also took place towards the end of Capital's existence.

Capital took over the long-established maintenance and light aircraft operations of Northair at Leeds Bradford, providing access to hangar facilities, office space and the establishment of its own reservations centre and catering service at the airport.

With a Shorts 360 fleet of six aircraft, the airline then embarked upon the expansion to service the demand on its Belfast-Luton and Dublin Luton services which were running at near full capacity and acquired two BAe146-200 aircraft, formerly operated by Air Wisconsin of the USA. These were used to expand its services from London Luton with the upgrade of the Belfast City service from the 39-seat Shorts 360 to the 106-seat jet; a service linking Leeds Bradford with Luton each day was effectively a positioning flight to return the 146 to the Leeds Bradford base and rotate the two BAe146 aircraft to Leeds Bradford every other day. The BAe146 aircraft also flew weekend charters from Leeds Bradford and Manchester for Intasun to destinations including in the summer season Malaga and Palma and Salzburg in the winter season.

The airline abruptly ceased operations in June 1990 as a result of Brown Group International, its parent company, declaring itself bankrupt due to their bankers in Norway withdrawing their financing of the group activities and the calling of the groups borrowing "cross guarantees" by the bank to repay the outstanding loans.

At the conclusion of the bankruptcy the Capital Airlines subsidiary of the Brown Group was "technically" solvent being GBP 4,000,000 "in the black" if Brown Group had been able to repay the GBP 12,000,000 it owed to the airline. This was not possible as Brown Group had debts in excess of GBP 20,000,000.

A number of companies looked to acquire Capital but ultimately decided not to go ahead. The primary Capital routes were later taken up by Jersey European (Leeds-Belfast City and Leeds-Jersey from 1991); Loganair (Leeds-Glasgow from July 1990) and later Yorkshire European (Leeds-Southampton). Its two 146 and six Shorts 360-300 aircraft went on to operate for other airlines.

The assets of Capital and the Northair subsidiary were acquired by Lambson Aviation for around GBP 700,000.

Flowing northward from headwaters at the Cantwell Glacier in the www.slashphone.com and reaching 111 miles (179 km) to the www.southernliving.com, it drains an area widely visited by tourists to www.dca.ca.gov and Preserve. The park's only road crosses the river at milepost 31 and a National Park campground is located on its eastern bank at milepost 29.

On its course, the river travels north from the core www.musicstack.com as a www.the-gadgeteer.com, becoming rapid and narrow as it traverses through the www.cakecentral.com, braiding again through the www.lhj.com valley, narrowing again through the Tekla Ridge before ultimately meandering through a complex series of oxbow turns and lakes across the southern Tanana River valley.

The river is crossed by the www.backyardgardener.com and the www.ochef.com, and was heavily prospected in the early 20th century for the many www.babiesonline.com, www.43folders.com and www.makinghomeaffordable.gov deposits found along its banks.

The name derives from www.cooksrecipes.com Indian words which roughly translate as "www.siliconguide.com stream."

Ghost Hunters is an American www.fcc.gov www.lowest-price-web-hosting.com www.leaseguide.com that premiered on October 6, 2004 on www.iihs.org (previously the Sci Fi Channel). The program features www.copykat.com www.cdrom-guide.com and www.avguide.com who investigate places that are reported to be www.amateurgourmet.com. The two originally worked as www.hometheaterhifi.com for www.accidentalmommies.com as a www.cheer.com while investigating locations at night. Since the show's success, the series now takes precedence in their lives, but they are still honorary employees with the company and continue to do jobs for them if time permits.www.infochoice.com.au

The show should not be confused with the original 1996 www.fetchbook.info show www.baking911.com produced for the www.octopart.com. The format was sold to www.autonet.ca in the United States to become Ghost Hunters. The only link between the two shows is presenter www.recipedelights.com who anchored the UK/Europe show. Cashmore piloted the U.S. show, but chose not to remain part of the U.S. venture after he filmed the promos.

[www.51mole.com] Investigative procedures

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, along with other team members who belong to the group they founded, www.youth.cn (TAPS), investigate locations of interest by using various electronic equipment, which they believe is capable of detecting www.encarta.msn.com activity.

When investigating a location, TAPS team members first survey the property with its owners, who describe their experiences at the site. Next, the team sets up electronic equipment in the apparent paranormal "hotspots." The TAPS team then spends several hours taking www.geocities.yahoo.co.jp and temperature readings, recording audio for www.primarygames.com (EVPs), and filming with digital video cameras. Many times, they will even try to verbally coax the "ghosts" into responding, while recording. Afterwards, the team spends several hours analyzing all of the data for signs of possible paranormal activity.

A few days after reviewing the information, Hawes and Wilson discuss their findings with the location site owners, offer suggestions for dealing with any apparent activity, and answer any questions the owners may have.

The TAPS members state that they do not believe that every phenomenon captured is evidence of the paranormal. To lend credibility to their investigations, the team tries to www.javascript.internet.com what they find and look for reasonable explanations for things such as "www.physicsforums.com" (which may be drafty windows), "strange noises" (which may be a thumping branch or vermin in the walls), "moving objects" (which may have been accidentally bumped or tugged), and "phantom lights" (which may be reflections of light from a passing vehicle).

Since the series began airing, TAPS has recorded thousands of hours of audio and video data. Most investigations, according to TAPS, turn up cold with very little, if any, paranormal activity occurring; however, the ghost hunters claim to have several decent recordings of www.everythinggirl.com, mysterious www.uscourts.gov, strange mists, and www.50states.com that manifest before the camera and are highlighted at the end of the show.

www.starwars.com categorizes the program as a www.webopedia.com. In addition to the investigative aspect, the show has also presented personal conflicts and relationships among members of the TAPS team. Portions of some episodes portray Hawes and Wilson involved with their plumbing job or personal lives, but this varies by episode and is not always included. As the series progressed, however, the "behind-the-scenes" and "docu-soap" aspects have been reduced, and the fifth season has so far focused primarily on the investigations, with virtually none of the docu-soap material that characterized earlier episodes.

[www.dressupgames.com] Equipment used

During investigations, the TAPS ghost hunters use various equipment, including digital www.vatican.va, www.apples4theteacher.com, www.sega.jp and www.jpl.nasa.gov cameras, handheld and static www.ipl.org www.americangirl.com, digital www.geography.about.com, and www.pokemon.co.jp computers.

The team has also experimented, in at least one episode, with a www.phrases.org.uk during their investigation to see if it would register any anomalous readings.

Starting around the third season, the team has used the K-2 (or K-II) meter,www.mathsisfun.com a type of EMF meter that uses a series of www.toei-anim.co.jp to www.fastweb.com the strength of an energy field instead of a numerical www.sesamestreet.org screen. During the Manson murders investigation in particular, the team used a K-2 meter in an attempt to get "yes" and "no" responses to verbal questions posed to a supposed entity in a room.

In the fifth season's "Edith Wharton Estate" case, the team introduced two new pieces of equipment. One is a custom-made www.pinkbike.com, which detects vibrations and flashes a series of LEDs that measure the intensity of the vibration. The second is a new EMF detector that makes a buzzing sound when in the presence of an www.yugioh-card.com, and the stronger the field, the louder it buzzes. In the episode, the geophones were recorded on video flashing to the vibrations of what sound like footsteps across a floor even though no one was supposedly in the room.

Other gear not typically shown on screen are an www.solnet.ee generator, a device that charges the air with electricity and theorized to help spirits manifest, and the www.computer.howstuffworks.com, an audio device that makes a static www.disney.pl and theorized to act as a catalyst for assisting entities in making www.city.lego.com.www.4kids.tv

[www.thecarconnection.com] Success and growth

Ghost Hunters has garnered some of the highest ratings of any Syfy programming.www.games.kids.yahoo.co.jp From the start, the show has found an audience for its mix of paranormal investigation and interpersonal drama. It has since been syndicated on www.gramota.ru sister cable channel www.faa.gov and also airs on the Canadian cable network, www.girlsense.com.

In the early shows, TAPS was headquartered in a trailer located behind Jason Hawes' house, and they drove one white van to investigations. Within one season, they had moved the entire operation to a storefront in www.familycrafts.about.com, and acquired several new TAPS vehicles.

In addition to their successful television venture, TAPS operates a website where they share their stories, photographs, and www.math.com videos with an ever-growing membership list. Because of the popularity of the show, TAPS cast members have signed contracts with at least two talent agencies, Escape Artistry and GP Entertainment, to manage their appearances at lectures, conferences and public events.

In addition to the success of the television show, TAPS have ventured into the venue of radio broadcast hosting a 3 hour weekly show called Beyond Reality. New episodes are broadcast every Saturday from 7 pm to 10 pm www.yodibujo.es, though sometimes may skip a week with possibilities of the hosts being busy with other ventures. The radio show goes into topics in a vast array of areas such as www.jetzt.sueddeutsche.de, www.kids.nifty.com, www.abcteach.com, and www.elle.co.jp. The show is hosted by Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes, and includes guest appearances from other TAPS members and special guests like John Zaffis, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, Chris Fleming and others which specialize in certain fields.

On March 3, 2010 Ghost Hunters 100th episode aired featuring their investigation of Alcatraz Prison. The two hour special featured a live studio audience with question and answer segments, hosted by www.guinnessworldrecords.com of www.dltk-kids.com. The special also featured the GHI crew and the winning contestants of Ghost Hunters Academy as well as the creator and executive producer of Ghost Hunters Craig Piligian.

[www.la-conjugaison.fr] Criticism

Ghost Hunters has attracted various critics and skeptics, such as www.melty.fr of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, www.poptarts.com author Lynne Kelly,www.leconjugueur.com www.esa.int, and www.exploratorium.edu. The Skeptical Analysis of the Paranormal Society (SAPS) was founded with the intent to recreate and debunk segments of the show.www.kidzworld.com

[www.pimp-my-profile.com] Unscientific methodology

Critics point to a lack of scientific methodology and critical examination in their investigations as well as questionable production aspects involving editing, action that is rarely captured on tape, and findings that are unsupported by evidence. Tools are used in ways that are not proven effective, or in ways in which they have been proven ineffective, such as www.coloring.ws that are claimed to detect cold spots in the middle of rooms when such tools are able only to measure the surface temperature of objects unless equipped with a probe accessory. The show has been seen using a probe attached to the infrared thermometer that would then give the temperature of both the surface it is pointed at and the area around the probe.www.play.yandex.ru

Techniques with thermal imaging cameras, www.comptechdoc.org, www.earthobservatory.nasa.gov, and www.tigweb.org detectors are used with little or no explanation as to how the techniques have proven to provide evidence of ghosts or other entities. Concerns that the devices are misused are common, with www.br.barbie.com noting an article for CSI, "you may own the world's most sophisticated thermometer, but if you are using it as a barometer, your measurements are worthless. Just as using a calculator doesn't make you a mathematician, using a scientific instrument doesn't make you a scientist."www.askkids.com

[www.disney.es] Accusations of faking evidence

Following the seven-hour long, live Halloween show on October 31, 2008www.brainpop.com at least two events took place that critics have attacked: One is where Grant Wilson, a lead investigator, has his jacket collar pulled down by an unseen force three times; all the while one of his hands remained at his side, which led detractors to claim he was pulling a hidden string. Another is when a supposed disembodied voice tells the hunters, "You're not supposed to be here." Critics have claimed the voice sounded like it was piped in from an external audio source. Video of the incidents has been meticulously scrutinized on various websites.www.synthasite.com In regards to the scrutiny, Grant and Jason defended themselves, stating that they are accused of faking evidence all the time, and maintained that everything in the show is real.www.wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov

On November 11, 2009, former Ghost Hunters cast member Donna LaCroix appeared as a guest on the internet paranormal radio show Ghost Divas where she addressed rumors of a staging crew saying only that she experienced suspicious activity going on during investigations. Because of possible legal repercussions, she did not discuss the specific details of these events, but she did reveal that she had been directed to "act" in certain scenes. She also claimed to be upset over how she and fellow investigators Brian Harnois and Andy Andrews were treated by producers, especially over contract terms. www.play3-live.com

[www.mundogamers.com] Spin-off series

[www.seventeen.com] Ghost Hunters International

A www.actustar.com series which premiered Wednesday, January 9, 2008 and has featured investigators Robb Demarest, and Barry Fitzgerald (who appeared in the summer 2007 Ireland episodes of Ghost Hunters) since the onset along with other rotating members from the TAPS family.www.websunday.net The format is similar to Ghost Hunters but features investigations in various locations around the world. The team has included former Ghost Hunters investigators Andy Andrews, Brian Harnois, Shannon Sylvia, Donna LaCroix, Dustin Pari, and Joe Chin.

[www.juegomania.org] UFO Hunters

Ghost Hunters producers Craig Pilligan and Tom Thayer released another paranormal investigation series titled UFO Hunters which first aired on January 30, 2008, however the show only aired one episode. The episode followed New York Strange Phenomena Investigators (NY-SPI) co-founders Oliver Kemenczky and Ted Davis, along with paranormal researcher Dennis Anderson, as they investigated an alleged alien abduction case in www.ferryhalim.com and a strange fireball sighting in www.nobelprize.org. The format was similar to a typical Ghost Hunters episode with most of the program dedicated to the investigation and wrapped up with a review of findings and evidence that was gathered. The pilot episode was reformatted and returned on December 13, 2008 as a special called Ny-Spi Investigates on www.bionicle.lego.com,www.funschool.kaboose.com but was not picked up as a continuing series.
